TOSS THE TOWEL: Air Drying Your Skin?
So hands up, who uses a towel to dry your face after cleansing? We decided to investigate the benefits of air-drying skin rather than using a towel and why we are making the switch! This could be a new step that you may consider adding to your skincare routine!
WHY YOU SHOULD AIR DRY YOUR FACE:
REASON #1 – TOWELS HOLD LOTS OF BACTERIA
If you are prone to BREAKOUTS
Lets be honest here, the majority of us probably don’t wash our towels as often as we should and bacteria can quickly build up on damp towels that aren’t dried properly. This bacteria is then transferred onto your skin which can lead to unwanted break outs!
REASON #2 – TOWELS CAN BE ABRASIVE
If you have SENSITIVE skin
Unless you’re using a super soft fine towel for your face, wiping your face with a towel can be quite rough on sensitive skin. If you vigorously rub your face with a towel it can lead to microscopic tearing on the skin’s surface which results in damage.
REASON #3 – YOUR SKIN IS MORE HYDRATED
If you suffer from DRY skin
Having skin slightly damp before your skincare routine ensures that your skin doesn’t dry out in the time between you drying your face and applying product so skin stays moisturised for longer!
REASON #4 – IT ACTUALLY MAKES YOUR SKINCARE WORK BETTER
Having slightly damp skin before you put your products on actually makes your skincare absorb better and moisturisers work better when skin is already hydrated!
IS AIR DRYING BAD?
100% NO! It’s not bad for your skin and there’s no real reason why you would need a towel apart from the fact that water residue may get onto your clothes, we recommend placing a small towel around your neck so that the water drops wont soak into your clothes.
DO I HAVE TO AIR DRY?
That really depends on you! We aren’t saying that you must never use a towel again, we just want to let you know the benefits of not using one but at the end of the day some people like to towel dry and that’s ok!
MASK TIME TIPS:
- If you like towel drying your face to make sure you use a different towel from your body towel
- Don’t rub your face with the towel, gently pat to reduce friction that can cause damage
- Try using a super fine and soft towel specially made for the skin on your face
- Let your towel dry properly and wash often!
